More than $10,000 have been raised for funeral expenses for the Morgan State University graduate who was shot and killed on Thursday.

Baltimore County Police say 25-year-old Tracey Carrington was targeted.

"He specifically wanted to shoot her, not the other girl," Officer Jennifer Peach, a spokeswoman for the police department, said.

According to police, Carrington was getting into her car with a friend after a night out at the S&S Lounge when someone came up to here and started shooting multiple times -- at only her.

"We knew she was targeted because she was with someone else who was not injured. No one else in the vicinity. No one else was shot at and there was no other crime that was being committed," Peach said.

Tattered crime scene tape throughout the block on Overlea Avenue is one of the few signs left where Carrington was killed.

According to LinkedIn, the former basketball standout was now an assistant coach for a school in Baltimore County.

Police detectives say a motive, at this point, isn't clear, but also add Carrington was set to be a witness in an upcoming murder case.

Defense attorney Warren Brown says it was his client, Nyghee Johnson's, case where she was supposed to testify.

Nyghee, and his brother Norwood, are charged in a double homicide in Towson.

Brown says the two were at home on house arrest at the time of the shooting, leaving investigators Puzzled on Carrington's killing.

"We don't have any reason to believe, now, that she was murdered because she was a witness in that case. Of course, that could change at some point as the investigation goes, but there are multiple avenues of this investigation that are going on so we really can't say that that is why she was targeted," Peach said.
