Friday is World Aids Day and a hospital in Baltimore is trying to help spread awareness.

Officials say one in 43 people in Baltimore City is living with HIV, so the University of  Maryland Medical Center is offering free HIV testing from 9:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

The free testing is sponsored by the UMMC Community Outreach and the JACQUES Initiative, a program of the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. In addition to raising awareness, the programs hope to eliminate the stigma that surrounds the disease.

The hospital says they hope to test at least 20,000 people and get those who test positive into treatment.

The only way you can get HIV is through bodily fluids of an infected person.
