This is the season of giving, even for our four-legged friends.

All month long, the Maryland SPCA is collecting toys and treats for the homeless pets in its shelter. They've set up a cardboard sleigh in the main lobby of their adoption center.

For dogs, they're looking for Kong toys, plush squeaky toys and soft treats. The cats like toy mice (without catnip), wand toys and balls with bells in them.

"Just like our pets at home, we want the pets in the shelter to feel special," said Tina Regester, the communications and media director at the Maryland SPCA.

The shelter is running low on Kong toys, which Regester says they give to the dogs everyday filled with kibble and peanut butter. It keeps the dogs occupied and happy for an hour or two a day.

Toys and treats can be dropped off at the Maryland SPCA's main facility off Falls Road in Hampden, at "Project Adopt" in the White Marsh Mall, or you can buy toys on Amazon off the shelter's wish list.
