Fairy tales do come true. A 4-year-old and a former police officer have become buddies for life, all over Beauty and the Beast.

Little Allie did not want to take off her Belle costume. She had just seen her favorite movie with her mom.

Mom had to run into the Columbia Target to pick up some things. Allie walked the aisles humming and happy when Cal Bowers noticed her.

Cal was beeping and beeping new items on the shelf and he turns to say, "Hi Belle how you doing?"

With mom standing by, Cal and Allie got to talking about the movie and what she liked best.  The conversation ends.

Allie whispers to her mom, "That man is very nice." Allie grabs her moms hand and off they go.

Cal says, "I need to do something more."  So he goes over and buys a Beauty and Beast rose.

He finds her, gets down on his knee and tells her to protect the rose. She takes the gift and hugs it, smiles from coast to coast.  Mom cannot believe how nice of  a gesture.

You see Cal knows a little bit about protection. He was a former Prince George's County Sheriffs Deputy. The last time he was on the news was nine years ago, being pulled out of the Laurel Econo Lodge. He was shot by a suspect.

Cal says maybe a fairy tale like his will inspire others to be nice. What he did was totally ad libbed, from the heart and a little girl will remember this magical moment for the rest of her life. You know what, so will Cal.
