"We cannot take resources out of Texas because we're in complete response mode," said Regional Chief Executive Officer for the Red Cross Greater Chesapeake Region, Scott Salemme.

He just got back from the gulf coast, and knows folks from Florida through possibly Virginia will need the same support, shelter, and food in the coming days.

"Making sure that we have the right supplies, the right people at the right time and the right location,” Salemme said.  “That's really what the challenge right now."

Massive storms back to back, as well as numerous wildfires burning out West have the agency stretched thin.  Yet the Red Cross is committed to helping everyone impacted.

To make that happen, they need man-power, and are putting out a call for volunteers.

"These are long term operations, we're gonna be in Texas for a long time, we're gonna be in Florida for a long time and other states,” said Salemme.  “So maybe right now we won't have an immediate need to deploy folks, but every two weeks we have to backfill for the folks who are coming back, so we want to make sure we're planning weeks out just not days out."
